Last March 8th, 2019, Rui Fernandes, head researcher for SEGAL (UBI/IDL), attended the “Expert Consultation on Scientific Tsunami Hazard Assessment of the Makran Subduction Zone” meeting, hosted on Kish Island, southern Iran.
“It was a great honor and pleasure to see you all in Kish Island attending this meeting and contributing to the advancement of the forgotten Makran Subduction Zone”, highlighted Mohammad Mokhtari, director of National Center for Earthquake Prediction and vice-chairman of ICG/IOTWMS Working Group. Mokhtari said que did appreciated the valuable presence of the participants, mainly traveling long distances.
According to Mokhtari, “Makran will look different after all your suggestions and contributions which will be followed with great respect and responsibilities”.
Indeed, he took the opportunity to make clear that he is looking forward to having continuous support to make the area more understood in sense of seismology and tsunami modeling. “All these efforts hopefully will result in tsunami risk reduction and vulnerability for residents who are exposed to danger in this region”, added him.
