The University of Beira Interior is opening to 2 (two) positions for Post-Doctoral Research  Fellowship (BPD) within the framework of the European Union ESFRI project EPOS-IP (European Plate Observing System – Implementation Phase), under the following conditions:

Job description: Each research position will consist of a full time position for a period of 12 months (with the possibility to be renewed until September 2019 under revision of the performance) at SEGAL (Space & Earth Geodetic Analysis Laboratory), Department of Computer Sciences, University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal. The selected candidates will conduct research in the field of development of Web Services for management of databases and repositories of geodetic data and derived products. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Sciences or similar areas.

► Candidates must have completed a PhD in Computer Sciences or similar areas.
► Proficiency in English.

► Strong knowledge of Information Systems and Internet Protocols.
► Relevant scientific publications.
► Ability to work in an organized and structured way.
► Good social and team working skills.
► Capacity to work independently, according to the instructions received.

Work plan: The candidate will be responsible for developing and documenting several of the deliverables that UBI is responsible for within the WP10 (GNSS Data & Products) of EPOS, in particular:

► Development of Web Services that are being developed for EPOS.
► Development of Interfaces and Add-ons for these Web Services.
► Maintaining Java source codes of existing software and developing new software for implementation of the new database structure for GNSS data and the metadata.
► Add more functionality to the current set of queries of the GLASS web service interface.
► Collaborate with the Integrated Core Services to ensure overall compatibility with the other EPOS Working Packages.
► Interaction with the other partners.

Applicable Laws and Regulations: Research Fellowship Holder Statute (Lei n.º 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto, Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica) and respective amendments; Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. — 2015 (Regulamento de Bolsas e Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia em vigor).

Working place: SEGAL (Space & Earth Geodetic Analysis Laboratory), Department of Computer Sciences, University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the supervision of Prof. Rui Fernandes.

Duration of Research Fellowship: Each fellowship will last 12 months and is expected to start by August/September 2017 or the earliest possible date thereafter. Each fellowship contract may be renewed until September 2019, subject to a positive annual evaluation. It is full time research fellowships and all the conditions established by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology will be applied. More information at FCT website.

Value of Monthly Fee Grant: The fellowship amount will be based on the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology rules for fellowships. The minimum value will consist of a monthly maintenance stipend of 1495 euros (tax free) for a post-doctoral research fellowship – BPD. More information at FCT website.

This value can be majored if the jury will consider that the selected candidate(s) has exceptional merit.

Evaluation criteria: Selection of the candidates will be performed by evaluation of the submitted documents (60%), followed by an interview (40%) of the top candidates, taking into consideration their curriculim, professional experience, merit and motivation. The interview is mandatory (optionally by teleconference) where the candidates must have a very good review (larger than 16 in a scale of 0-20). The jury can decide to not select a candidate if his/her final grade is below 16.
